Goodliffes Cafe Bar and Bistro
We savoured a fruity, smooth merlot and a crisp sauvignon blanc while admiring the well-stocked bar and chic modern decor. Friendly yet unobtrusive staff then brought two elegantly presented main courses - a Cajun-spiced sea bass fillet with roasted vegetables, Moroccan cous cous and roasted aubergine for me, and an olive pesto, Brie, asparagus and spinach tart with new potatoes, watercress salad and mixed leaves for my partner. Both lived up to the promise made by our excellent starters, sporting perfectly balanced flavours and textures. Always up to the challenge of three courses, we chose traditional desserts to round off our delightful meal. The citrus tart, accompanied by strawberry ice cream, was the right side of tangy, whilst the strawberry cheesecake was delightfully rich. Two fragrant coffees later, we resolved to return - perhaps for one of the live music and tapas evenings that take place on the last Sunday of each month - and left with smiles on our faces.
