The Plough

7 Station Road, Littlethorpe, LE19 2HS

This inviting traditional pub sits near beautiful parkland and the River Soar on the edge of Littlethorpe, a charming village with excellent transport links. The Plough has gained a glowing reputation as the area’s go-to venue thanks to its friendly staff, vibrant atmosphere and top-notch food. Owner Alan personally refurbished the pub before its re-opening; the restaurant boasts tasteful surroundings in which to enjoy your meal – think exposed brick, rustic wooden fittings and ambient lighting. The history of the pub is also evident; a timeline of The Plough’s landlords dating back to the 17th century sits behind the bar.

The head chef has created a menu of traditional pub favourites and exciting modern options, all prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. You might start with the delicate prawn and smoked salmon salad, or flavoursome scallops with black pudding. For your main course, try the popular English tapas – choose from a range of small plates including delightful options such as mini fish and chips, steamed mussels, homemade beer-battered onion rings, scampi with tartare sauce and breaded Somerset Brie wedges with cranberry. If you still have room for afters, the frequently changing dessert menu offers a great selection of treats. Particularly scrumptious are the homemade crumbles. Recent favourites have included apple and rhubarb, and raspberry. If you prefer something savoury, the cheeseboard has a fantastic range of local and British cheese.

The well-stocked bar features all the popular spirits, as well as a good selection of wine, beer and cask ales. In the summer, take advantage of The Plough’s peaceful patio area – a suntrap at all times of the day, it’s the perfect place to unwind with a refreshing drink. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself joined by a friendly horse or two – the local riding school often stops off at The Plough during a hack.

Keep an eye out for themed evenings such as pie night, homemade curry and burger specials, among others, which are proving extremely popular with regulars and new visitors alike. There are also occasional live music events and karaoke nights, and Alan plans to transform The Plough’s adjoining skittles alley into a street food venue.
