Bustling Tastes Chinese Restaurant is perfectly positioned for a spot of family dining, or a delicious meal on the move, in the Meridian Leisure Park in Leicester. Sitting next to the fun of Hollywood Bowl and a step away from the Vue Cinema, Tastes opens its doors to those seeking a fun and laid-back lunch or evening meal. It has a varied and exciting menu, and the staff will go out of their way to make you feel wanted. The conscientious team continually ensure that everything is as it should be.

As you might imagine, the Meridian Leisure Park is a popular family destination and Tastes reflects this with a special children's menu. Little diners, under 12, can choose from dishes like sweet and sour chicken balls, coated chicken strips, barbecue spare ribs, chicken-fried rice, chicken chow mein or vegetable spring rolls - the reasonable price even includes a soft drink. There are also high chairs for the tiniest Chinese-food aficionado.

The tables are trestle style and you can linger over your meal as long as you wish. Candles add to the relaxing ambience and, if you are feeling adventurous, tuck in using the traditional, but tricky, chopsticks. This restaurant aims to please in every respect and, if you can't find your favourite on the menu, they pull as many strings as possible in an attempt to serve it to you. Once the children are settled, there is much to please parents as well. There is a choice of menus to choose from, depending on the occasion - whether you choose the lunch menu, main menu or party menu, you'll find appetisers aplenty, noodle dishes, soups, rice dishes, beef dishes and much more besides. If you are a vegetarian then this could be your new favourite restaurant, with a pleasing array of vegetable and even tofu-based dishes on offer.

There was so much to choose from that making a choice was a difficult task. My appetite was kick-started by seafood and sweetcorn soup, eaten with gusto and a generous side of prawn crackers. My dining guest sampled the sesame prawn toast, washed down with one of the reasonably priced soft drinks. Portions were tasty and generous, encouraging you to take your time and savour every moreish mouthful. The Szechuan mixed vegetables were huge and flavoursome, but I couldn't resist sampling a fork full of my guest's roast duck in chilli and garlic - the wonderful kick of the chilli complementing the tender meat beautifully. Despite feeling replete, the desserts were so appealing that the dark chocolate truffle mousse could not be ignored. Quality did not waver throughout our evening, and we left the restaurant feeling full, happy and intent on a return visit. Tastes is a unique dining experience and even offers a takeaway service so, if you don't have time to stop and eat, make sure to pop in and pick up a meal.
