Just minutes from Leeds city centre, Bewleys Hotel is a comfortable retreat in the heart of the city. There is a real emphasis on their comfortable accommodation, but you would be mistaken if you thought that's all Bewleys has to offer. Bewleys Brasserie radiates the same high standards as the hotel, catering for all types of visitor, from city dwellers and local businessmen to first-time visitors.

As I entered the building I was greeted by their helpful and attentive staff, who, throughout the whole evening, remained dedicated to our relaxation and comfort. The menu presented a fabulous choice, catering for both simple and more adventurous tastes - from spicy salmon fishcakes and chicken tikka lasagne through to pan-fried breast of pheasant and pork fillet. Sitting down to our drinks we were greeted by Bewleys' homemade sun-dried tomato bread to tempt our appetites. I followed this with a starter of seared scallops, and truffle-infused black pudding with red wine jus and chervil salad. Here, fresh ingredients are cooked to perfection and served with impeccable presentation - needless to say, I was eager to sample my main course. A fillet of beef arrived, tender and succulent, served with a herb croquet, vine tomatoes and a red wine jus - delicious aromas enhanced every bite. Their dessert menu offers an enterprising choice, with variations on traditional sweets, so you may find yourself wanting to try a little of everything. I plumped for a Malibu creme brûlée - deliciously creamy and a sublime end to my meal.

You will be glad to hear that breakfast at Bewleys is not exclusively for guests. Forget grabbing a quick coffee and a muffin on the way to work and instead sample top breakfast cuisine, such as an Irish-style buffet breakfast with everything you could ever want for just £8.95 - I know where I'd rather set myself up for the day. Bewleys, all in all, is the finest complement to the bustling, vibrant city of Leeds and a must-try for anyone visiting or living in the city.
