If restaurants were movie stars, Shampan, situated in the market town of Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan in Wales, would be Meryl Streep due to the sheer amount of prestigious awards it has picked up throughout the years. Not only was chef Ashi Aravind crowned Asian Chef of the Year in 2018, but the restaurant also won Asian Restaurant of the Year South Wales 2019 at the Asian Curry Awards this year and placed second at the Wales Food Awards 2019 under the category of Best Asian Restaurant in the country.

When we visited Shampan earlier in the year, we found the restaurant to be a true education in Indian cuisine, with its menu of regional Indian dishes cooked with care by some of the country’s finest chefs. Using the freshest spices, each and every dish is a true delight to savour. From the light and delicious Karwar, a soft-shelled crab dish created by chef Ashi Aravind himself, to the comforting chicken curry flavoured with coconut milk and Kashmiri chilli, everything is cooked from scratch, resulting in flavoursome and imaginative dishes you won’t be able to get enough of.

This Christmas, Shampan is celebrating the festive season in true foodie style by offering a 7-course Indian feast for just £29.99 per person that any fan of Indian cuisine would be mad to miss out on. Dishes on this year’s Christmas gourmet menu include chicken chapli kebab, comprised of minced chicken in fresh coriander with ginger and spices, shallow fried and served with mint chutney and salad; smoked salmon bajji, featuring  smoked salmon pieces seasoned with southern spices, crispy fried in chickpea batter and served with mango chutney; and the very festive tandoori turkey pudhinawali – turkey chunks marinated in yoghurt, ginger, garlic, mint, coriander and spices and cooked to perfection in the tandoor oven.

Forget the traditional turkey dinner which you feel obligated to consume multiple times throughout the festive season, what better way to warm up this winter than with a table full of all your favourite Indian treats, as well as a few dishes you’ll never have sampled before?

Housed in a Grade II listed building and formed by three Keralan friends, few Indian restaurants are as inviting as this, boasting colourful and characterful interiors that provide the perfect relaxed environment in which to escape from the hustle and bustle. Moody, atmospheric lighting, fiery oranges and reds, and eye-popping touches dotted throughout set the scene for a tranquil, exciting, and unforgettable dining experience you’ll wish to return to again and again.

With a reputation for providing exceptional customer service along with chefs that boast years of experience, whether you’re planning to check out the 7-course Christmas buffet this December, making a trip here with all your friends and family in the new year, or just fancy one of the finest Indian takeaways you’ll ever have tasted, Shampan in Cowbridge never fails to exceed expectations.
