To celebrate the upcoming first year anniversary of Rarebreed Dining Group’s Reading only members club RARE this December, as well as the launch of their membership programme to Surrey this September 12th, here at Fed Up & Drunk, we’d like to shine a spotlight on the fantastic benefits of becoming a Rare member, while taking you on a journey through The Corn Stores, a simply must-visit bar and restaurant set within a stunning Grade II listed building in central Reading.

Part of the Rarebreed Dining Group which also includes The Shurlock Inn in Shurlock Row, Berkshire, and The Plough Inn in Cobham, Surrey, The Corn Stores in Reading combines exceptional food, world-class drinks, and a stylish and inviting setting to create a one-of-a-kind sanctuary for food and drink lovers throughout the region.

Set across three elegantly decorated floors, you can’t pass by this lovingly restored and historic building without wanting to step inside; its characterful façade is simply impossible to ignore. Once inside, the venue’s distinctive décor will enchant you, boasting quirky touches such as funky zig-zag floors and bubble chandeliers, along with a cocktail of natural, floral touches and bold, industrial features. No matter where you look, the vibrancy of these three spaces never fails to impress.

An energetic workspace by day but a relaxed and sophisticated bar by night, the ground-floor cocktail bar is the perfect place to enjoy craft cocktails and indulgent bar snacks in the evening as you let the venue’s upbeat house music vibrate throughout your veins, releasing all the stresses of the day. Order the likes of homemade hummus with flatbread, mini cheeseburgers, spiced chicken wings, beef fat chips, and macaroni bites with chilli sauce, and wash it all down with creative cocktails including The Corn Stores’ Mango Martini, New Toad Sour, and Espresso Rumtini.

The upscale and sophisticated steak restaurant on the second floor will quickly have you salivating. Using fresh, local produce to create exquisite dishes that showcases British farmers, fishermen, and cheesemakers, the menu boasts something for everyone, although the restaurant’s first love is meat. Using cuts from their house dry aging fridges and their very own butchery, cooked in their signature style on a Robata Chargrill, sit in the spacious, open-plan dining space with private mezzanine area and tuck into the likes of 200g fillet steak, 400g pork tomahawk, and 400g lamb Barnsley chop, all served with chargrilled bone marrow and your choice of peppercorn, red wine, café de Paris butter, or béarnaise sauce.

The third floor is where you’ll discover the venue’s exclusive member’s lounge, a luxurious home away from home where you can relax, work, network, and socialise. For just £250 per year, Rare members will enjoy exclusive access to their lounge and bar, open from 11am until 11pm Monday to Wednesday, 12am on Thursdays and 1am on Fridays and Saturdays, as well as a number of member events, offers and products, including a collection of rare vintage spirits, an exclusive cocktail menu, and talks from influential speakers and suppliers. Membership is limited, with applications reviewed by the Membership Committee, but it’s worth it alone just to get your hands on the in-house oak-aged spirits and amazing cocktail creations on offer.

Taking place this Thursday 12th September from 6.30pm until 11pm, The Plough Inn is proud to be celebrating the expansion of the Rare members club to Surrey with an impressive showcase of food, drink, music, and more. Set across The Plough Inn’s delightful terrace and dining room, guests lucky enough to attend this pop up event can expect a preview of Rare’s Surrey membership offering including a seasonal oyster bar, Rarebreed grill and butchery showcase, as well as a selection of stalls hosted by Rarebreed Dining’s favourite local suppliers including Chase Distillery, Chapel Down, Far Reaches, and Distillery of Surrey. Complimentary canapés and welcome drinks also await guests this Thursday.
