Princesshay, 16 Bedford Street, Exeter EX1 1LL
Reopening tomorrow after 2 months of refurbishments, wagamama Exeter is excited to finally get to show off its brand new look to the restaurant’s many fans in the area that have had to go without its incredible Japanese cuisine since June. More beautiful than it’s ever been after it’s big makeover, not only is the restaurant now more inviting and stylish than ever, but there’s also a brand new menu with a fresh range of nourishing bowls and Asian-inspired cocktails to sample, perfect for summer evenings on wagamama Exeter’s chilled-out terrace.
To celebrate this exciting reopening, next Tuesday, wagamama Exeter is thrilled to be inviting trailblazing vegan chef and friend of the restaurant chain Gaz Oakley through its doors for a kitchen takeover event you won’t want to miss.
If you’re unfamiliar with Gaz Oakley, you shouldn’t be. A 26-year-old chef, author, and Youtuber from Cardiff, Gaz started his popular Instagram page @avantgardevegan in February 2016 with the hope of spreading his activism through food across the world. Reaching 35,000 Instagram followers by November 2016, Gaz knew he was on to something special and launched the Avant Garde Vegan YouTube channel in November 2016.
Seeing his online following continue to grow, Gaz began to go around the country doing pop-up dinners at restaurants and bringing vegan stalls to festivals. After years of success, he released his popular debut cookbook Vegan 100 in January 2018 and his second cookbook Vegan Christmas in September 2018. Today, he continues to be a well-respected name in the online vegan culinary world with over 688k subscribers on YouTube, where he brings his viewers the best in exciting vegan recipes every Sunday, and a very impressive 366k followers on Instagram. He also recently became executive chef at a London vegan burger restauarant, The Vurger Co., where he designs new burgers and dishes for their menu, including his summer special “Gaz’s Kickin’ Caribbean Vurger” and their exciting Christmas burger.
One of Gaz’s biggest accomplishments to date however is his collaboration with wagamama, where he created the chain’s dish ‘Avant-Gard’n’. The dish features Gaz’s delicious vegan egg creation and includes components like sticky BBQ glazed seitan and caramelised king oyster mushrooms.
The event, taking place on Tuesday 13th August from 7.30 until 10.30, will give you the chance to meet Gaz, who’ll be suiting up in his wagamama chef whites to take over the wagamama Exeter kitchen for one night only. You’ll also get to try his exclusive collab dish, ‘Avant-Gard’n’, featuring the world’s very first vegan egg, which will be cooked by the man himself.
Open to the public and filled on a first-come-first-served basis, make sure you arrive early so you don’t miss out on this special, one-night-only vegan kitchen takeover. Any food enjoyed (including the ‘Avant-Gard’n’) must be paid for.
