In a bid to help clean up the ocean, critically acclaimed Chef Patron of Michelin-starred Restaurant Story in London, Tom Sellers, and his entire team have relocated to Carbis Bay in Cornwall this summer to launch Story by the Sea.
With a mission to remove 50 metric tonnes of plastic from the oceans in partnership with global brand Parley for the Oceans, an environmental organisation and global collaboration network for creators, thinkers and leaders known for its Ocean Plastic Program, this exciting six-week residency will give diners the chance to enjoy an unforgettable gastronomic experience while soaking up the sun and taking in the gorgeous views of the golden sandy beaches and blue seas that surround them.
As part of this collaboration with Parley for the Oceans, diners will receive a Parley Ocean Bag at the end of their meal, made from five intercepted plastic bottles, as a reminder to protect the oceans by avoiding single-use plastic. Available to purchase from Parley’s website for £20 with all proceeds going to support Parley’s global clean-up operations, every sale results in the removal of 10 pounds of marine plastic waste.
Set against the picturesque backdrop of Carbis Bay Estate’s privately owned 25-acre Blue Flag beach, diners will get to dig into an indescribably delicious five or six-course menu inspired by the ocean and created using the finest seasonal ingredients the local area has to offer. Promising to be an unforgettable experience set in one of the most breathtaking areas of the UK, expect playfully creative and exquisitely presented dishes that have been masterfully executed by Tom Sellers and his talented team of chefs, along with a carefully crafted cocktail menu that features twists on classic drinks and showcases some of the finest ingredients available.
Tom Sellers had this to say about this exciting six-week residency and his motivation behind this project:
“I have always had the fondest memories of the seaside and a very loving relationship with our oceans. The ocean is a magical gift we have been given, along with everything found within it, and I feel extremely lucky to have this opportunity to cook within Carbis Bay. The ocean and all that surrounds it will shape our vision for the menu’s creative and cooking style.”
Known for breaking convention and merging fine dining with forward-thinking, casual restaurant culture, Tom Sellers isn’t a chef that likes pretension. Named by Forbes Magazine as one of the UK’s ’30 under 30’, Tom was guided by some of the culinary world’s greatest and most influential chefs including Tom Aikens in London, Thomas Keller in New York, and René Redzepi in Copenhagen, all before the age of 21. Having learned from the very best, Tom opened Restaurant Story in 2013 at age 26, where he won a Michelin star for the restaurant after just five months of opening and has retained it every year since. Famous for its showstopping signature dishes which include the likes of ‘Bread and Dripping’, an edible, melting candle made from beef tallow and accompanied by bread, this eleven-table restaurant is one of the highlights of London’s world-class dining scene.
An innovative and unique chef that embraces the modern, Tom always aims to create a one-of-a-kind culinary experience for his diners, and Story by the Sea is no exception. Story by the Sea’s interiors mirror those of Restaurant Story in London, stylishly blending a contemporary aesthetic with traditional luxury. Showcasing natural textures with splashes of colour, comfortable seating, and warm lighting throughout, dining at Story by the Sea is a delightful experience that should not be missed this summer.
Open seven days a week and running until the 14th September 2019, Story by the Sea’s set menu is available for £95pp for lunch for 5 courses and £125pp for dinner for 6 courses (excluding service charge).
Tom will also be joined by Michelin-starred chefs Michael O’Hare and Niall Keating for one night only in the coming weeks. The Man Behind the Curtain’s Michael O’Hare will be joining Tom on 24th August, while Whatley Manor’s Niall Keating will be joining Tom on 1st September.
