If you’re exploring the quirky markets and charming shops of Bristol’s Old Town, you’ll want to complete your experience with a visit to The Jetty, a magnificent restaurant located in Bristol Harbour Hotel. Housed in two iconic former banks, it’s a welcome addition to one of Bristol’s most famous streets.
We visited on a warm spring evening and as we stepped into the restaurant from the bustle of Corn Street we were enveloped by the serene ambience. Our cordial host led us to the Gold Bar, a suitably opulent space for a room that was once the bank manager’s private office. Its grand past is still evident, accentuated by opulent furnishings and elegant splashes of colour, while the bar itself displays an exhaustive selection of fine spirits framed by an open Art Deco surround. The cocktail menu perfectly infuses timeless classics with original and striking flavours. Nestled in a cosy nook, we sipped our cocktails while smooth melodies eased and echoed through the chambers.
Moving through to the restaurant we took our seats next to the vast windows and watched the trickle of evening life pass through the historic old city. Elegant and comfortable with high ceilings and subtle nautical accents, The Jetty provides the perfect environment for diners. To start, I couldn’t resist the satisfyingly decadent cheese soufflé, which was beautifully light in texture with a rich cheese sauce. My partner was equally enthralled with his choice: an elegant plate of ginger-cured mackerel with pear, spelt soda bread and smoked butter. I followed with a mouth-watering breast of chicken with whole prawns served atop smoky pak choi and drizzled with beautiful lobster sauce, while my partner tucked into a sumptuously delicate hake fillet wrapped in prosciutto and served with shellfish mariniere. We finished with the perfect tarte Tatin and a glorious sunken chocolate soufflé. Each dish was a symphony of exquisite flavours – the talent of the chefs was evident in every morsel.
Service was utterly impeccable throughout the evening – our charismatic waiter achieved the perfect level of attentiveness, effortlessly weaving his way around the room making sure guests were at ease. This part of town is fast becoming a foodie hotspot, and there’s no doubt that The Jetty is the jewel in the crown.
