Resting amongst the vines, the award-winning West Street Vineyard, situated in the small and sleepy market town of Coggeshall in Essex between Colchester and Braintree, is an idyllic spot to make a pit-stop after a picturesque walk with the dog through this scenic slice of the country. The restaurant, with its sunny terrace and large glass windows which boast stunning views of the vineyard, also makes a brilliant venue for a large celebration with friends and family with its very own cellar bar perfect for private parties.

As one would expect, it’s the wonderful wine made on site which is the real draw of the West Street Vineyard. With an excellent selection of their own wines, including a 2013 sparkling wine with an appetising apple aroma and an award-winning 2016 white with a hint of stone fruit, along with an enviable selection of over 40 English wines and 50 from across the globe, if you’re a wine connoisseur, this restaurant is a must-visit. Why not visit during one of West Street Vineyard’s all-day introduction to wine courses and learn all about English winemaking and the many varieties of wine from around the world!? Jane and her team at West Street Vineyard are incredibly passionate about great wine – but don’t worry, there’s not even a whiff of pretension here.

It’s not just the wine that makes this such a winning venue. Whether you’re visiting for breakfast, lunch or dinner, you’ll be impressed with the quality of the dishes on the menu, all reasonably priced and beautifully presented with ingredients sourced locally. The food here is so good in fact that it’s even won awards. Come for breakfast and fill your belly with West Street Vineyard’s full English, featuring Butchers sausages, dry-cured bacon, grilled tomato, field mushrooms, baked beans, Tiptree farm eggs, and toast. If you’re visiting a little later on, the wild boar sausages with cheese and leek mash or the fish platter showcasing poached tiger prawns, smoked salmon, smoked trout pâté, and pickled Mackerel with artisan bread won’t disappoint.

But it’s dinner here which is truly an indulgent treat, with a tempting range of delicious dishes that will have you drooling. Whether you choose the paprika-roasted corn-fed chicken with saffron, olive and chorizo-braised rice, the roast cod with green beans, squid ink, crayfish risotto and salsa verde, or the exceptional 28-day-matured Orkney sirloin steak with hand-cut chips, roast vine tomato, roast field mushrooms and café de Paris butter, you’ll be in foodie heaven. Their decadent afternoon tea accompanied by their delicious West Street fizz is also a delight.

With an exciting and ever-changing menu that makes the most of the best seasonal produce available across the region, often sourced from growers in the nearby village, no matter what dishes await you at West Street Vineyard, you can expect exceptional food with some of the world’s finest wines to perfectly accompany your dish.
