This July marks 10 years since the current owners of The Six Bells Inn took over this wonderful establishment and helped mould it into what it is today, so to celebrate with them and congratulate them on this impressive feat, we wanted to highlight what really makes this rural village inn so special.
Situated in picturesque Penmark, a village south-west of Barry near Rhoose in the Vale of Glamorgan in South Wales, The Six Bells Inn is the epitome of a traditional Welsh country pub. Dating back to the 16th century, this establishment oozes character and charm and boasts some of the best home-cooked food and award-winning real ales you’ll find this part of the British Isles. As soon as you step through the doors to The Six Bells Inn, you’ll immediately feel warmed and welcomed by its traditional, homely interior; striking wooden beams, roaring log fires, and a bright beer garden await you.
Over the years, The Six Bells Inn has seen a number of extensions and refurbishments, but this hasn’t taken away from its traditional character one bit, in fact it’s only enhanced its appeal. A highly popular haunt for both locals and visitors to this little village due to its impressive ratings on Trip Advisor, the owners pride themselves on having perfected the pub classic, using only “Farm to Fork” meat coming from nearby fields and vegetables sourced locally.
Feast on terrific mains such as their traditional pie of the day, beer battered fish of the day, curry of the day, Welsh faggots, rump of Welsh lamb, or sausages and mash, to name just a few of the many, varied, and traditional selections on the menu perfectly cooked up for you with passion by the talented kitchen team. Their fantastic, hearty Sunday lunches are also something truly special.
The inn is also well-known for its great selection of award-winning cask ales, with many coming from a number of local, small microbreweries. Alongside these brilliant beers is a comprehensive choice of wines, perfect for enjoying with your traditional pub grub.
If you’re planning a trip to this beautiful area of the world or you’re a local that has somehow overlooked The Six Bells Inn, now is the perfect time to visit – especially as this weather allows you to enjoy the wonderful bright beer garden as it was intended – with a cold beer, soaking up the sun.
Every Tuesday to Saturday from 12pm to 2.30pm, enjoy their lunchtime meal deal offer – 2 courses for only £12 per person, and don’t forget to come down on the 1st Monday of every month for their monthly pub quiz, with cash prizes, music and picture rounds, and £3 curry and chips at halftime.
