An interview with Zara’s Chocolates, Bristol
National Chocolate Week is in full swing and as if we need an excuse to talk all things chocolate, we caught up with the lovely Zara – the genius behind the award-winning Zara’s Chocolates on Bristol’s North Street.
When did you become interested in chocolate?
I was a chocoholic from a very young age, and have always loved baking and cooking. It was after university that I decided to take my love of chocolate further and start learning the art of the chocolatier.
You must have made loads of chocolaty treats – what is your favourite that you’ve made so far?
At the moment, I think my favourite would be our honey and pistachio truffles. We use a delicious Ecuadorian milk chocolate, local honey from the Quantocks, and caramelised pistachios. Simply delicious!
And your most-liked flavour combinations?
Our most popular chocolate is definitely our sea salted praline bites. There is still a big following for the moreish flavours of salted chocolate at the moment!
What do you enjoy most about making confectionery and hosting workshops?
I love creating delicious chocolates that make people smile. It is a really great feeling to know that people are enjoying and sharing the products you create and then coming back for more!
Your shop on North Street, Southville is filled with goodies – what can people expect to find?
We share our shop with local florist Ivory Flowers and so our shop is always looking and smelling beautiful with a mixture of flowers and chocolates. We also make all of our chocolates there, so you can come and watch us at work and try some samples too!
How are you celebrating National Chocolate Week this week?
We are attending the Chocolate Week show at Olympia in London this weekend. It’s my first time there – I’m really looking forward to it!
Do you have any events coming up soon?
We have lots of chocolate workshops coming up this Autumn in the shop and a you can also find us at some Christmas markets around Bristol. You can find all the details online at zaraschocolates.co.uk
