To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Viva! – Europe’s largest vegetarian and vegan charity – has given awards for excellence and innovation to businesses ranging from footwear retailers to food outlets. Most categories were voted for by the charity’s thousands of supporters.

Acorn Vegetarian Kitchen in Bath has a reputation for its inventive approach to vegetarian dining and deservedly scooped the Viva! Best Vegetarian & Vegan Restaurant title. Founder and director of Viva!, Juliet Gellatley explains: ‘I’m delighted that Viva! supporters have recognised the dedication and excellence of Acorn Vegetarian Kitchen. It is truly an honour to give this award and work with such a wonderful, ethical company.’

Richard Buckley, head chef at the Bath-based restaurant says: ‘We are thrilled to win the Viva! Award for Best Vegetarian & Vegan Restaurant. We see this award as a reward for our philosophy of taking nothing away from our food, but, instead, beginning with the plants and cooking them with the respect they deserve. Viva! have been tirelessly working to change the way that humans eat for 20 years and we have nothing but respect and admiration for all their hard work and dedication, if we manage just a fraction of this we will sleep well at night.’
