We look forward to hosting our very own Macmillan Coffee Morning…

We’ve been dusting off our aprons, pulling out the mixing bowls and unwrapping the chinaware for one of the biggest events of the year – the Macmillan Coffee Morning. Across the country, groups large and small are doing the same to create the world’s biggest coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

When you think that one in three of us will have to face cancer during our lifetime, it’s reassuring to know there is an organisation that offers medical, emotional, practical and financial support to those affected. Every penny raised for Macmillan will directly impact an individual’s life and we are proud to support this cause again this year.

The Macmillan Coffee Morning has been going since 1990, when a local fundraising committee decided to meet up for a bit of coffee and cake and donate the cost of their goodies to Macmillan – fast forward thirteen years and the event is nationwide and raises millions every year. In 2012 115,000 people took part and raised £15 million.

Here at Fed Up & Drunk, we’ll be dishing out pastries, hosting our own bake off, partaking in games and raffles and generally having a bit of a break from the norm – and we’ll share the day with you here on the blog.

In the meantime, why not scout out your local coffee morning, or perhaps (speedily) set up your own?

Here’s what you need to know:

When is it?
Friday 27th September 2013

Where is it?
Find your nearest coffee morning here and pop in for a cuppa – and if you fancy being in with a chance of winning £10,000, a car or a holiday among other HUGE things, enter the Macmillan raffle.

What do I bring?
You can discuss baking ideas with your local coffee morning committee. Most importantly, remember to bring your spare change to the event (and your sweet tooth), or your mobile phone – it’s really easy to text to donate.

How do I set my own coffee morning?
Simply sign up on the website and get going. It’s up to you how you’d like to organise it. Be sure to check out the ideas generator on the website.

I don’t know what to bake…
Well, perhaps Stephen’s Fry’s buns or Gwyneth Paltrow’s muffins will inspire you – there are plenty of celebrity recipes to try out on the Macmillan home page .

How do I donate to Fed Up & Drunk’s coffee morning?

You can text to donate for Fed Up & Drunk’s Macmillan Coffee Morning by texting COFFEE 36K to 70550 – one text = £5. And we’ll let you know how much we’ve raised next week – along with pictures of all the cakes we made!

Texts cost £5 plus network charge. Macmillan will receive 95p of every £1 donated in this way. Obtain bill payer’s permission first. Macmillan Cancer Support registered charity in England and Wales (261017), Scotland (SC039907) and the Isle of Man (604).
