Meat lovers seeking a culinary break to really sink their teeth into need look no further – the team at renowned butchery The Ginger Pig has teamed up with The White Swan Inn in Pickering to create a carnivore’s dream weekend away. As the only venue outside of London to be supplied by The Ginger Pig – and with the butchery’s rare breeds farmed nearby in Levisham, Newton and Wykeham – this 16th-Century rural retreat is an apt venue for these exciting breaks, which launch with a two-night stay on the 10th May, followed by another on 5th July.

You’ll start your fun-packed foodie vacation with a delicious Friday night supper in The White Swan Inn’s restaurant, before retiring to one of the hotel’s peaceful and luxurious Hideaway rooms for a good night’s sleep. After waking up to a tasty breakfast including, of course, Ginger Pig sausages and bacon, you’ll go for a scenic steam train trip on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to Levisham Station, where you will find Grange Farm, the beating heart of The Ginger Pig, just a short walk away. Here guests will be taken on a tour of the 280 acres of prime Yorkshire farmland by Ginger Pig founder, Tim Wilson, followed by a butchery demonstration and lesson from head butcher Andy, working with pork, lamb or beef. This features informative talks on meat, breeds and farming methods and a range of butchery skills, as well as a taster in the art of sausage-making. Such classes are typically held at The Ginger Pig’s Marylebone store, so these Yorkshire-based weekends offer a unique opportunity to encounter this unrivalled expertise in the very setting where the animals are born and bred – what a treat!

Yet the fun doesn’t stop there – upon your return to the hotel, you’ll be invited to a Champagne reception and canapés in The Bothy, a beautiful barn conversion with roaring fires and comfy sofas. Each lucky guest will be presented with a copy of The Ginger Pig Meat Book, followed by a celebration dinner featuring roasted rib of Longhorn beef, roasted loin of Old Spot pork and premium chateaubriand. A hearty breakfast and relaxed Sunday-morning checkout completes the package – you could even extend your visit by enjoying Sunday lunch before heading home.

Priced at £890 (inc. VAT) per couple, based on two people sharing a Hideaway room, the package includes a two-night stay with dinner, bed and breakfast, a trip on the steam railway, the butchery course and farm tour, Champage reception and Ginger Pig book. What a fantastic price for such a fabulous break! An optional Sunday lunch and Sunday stay package is priced at an additional £189 (inc. VAT) per room based on two people sharing.

Yet you don’t have to wait for these special weekends to enjoy a taste of The Ginger Pig, as you’ll always find plenty of their top-notch meats on the menu at The White Swan Inn’s celebrated restaurant – check their website for further information on all the foodie treats they offer:
