We choose our favourite treats for this Easter…
If the child/chocoholic in you craves some Easter egg action this year, shove this list under the nose of your nearest and dearest; or, failing that, use it for last-minute-shopping inspiration. Here’s our pick of this year’s best delights, sure to get your chocolate-egg-loving tastebuds hopping like the Easter Bunny.
Dark Chocolate Spring Flowers Easter Egg, £39
From the people at Betty’s, this classy piece of craftsmanship is made and decorated by hand. The chocolate is Swiss, so it’s extra creamy and the perfect gift for the traditionalist in your clan.
Black Forest Gateau Egg, £9.99
Definitely an adults-only pick, Thornton’s Black Forest Gateau Egg is extra naughty. With thick dark chocolate, decorative chocolate curls and juicy cherries, it’s ideal for a spouse with a dessert addiction.
Heavenly Hazelnut Egg, £19.99
The Lindt Heavenly Hazelnut Egg is so popular that it’s sold out online, but you can still get your hands on this nutty sensation in-store. This one should be eaten slowly for full enjoyment, so definitely for a recipient with will-power. Mum, it’s on its way.
Decorated White Chocolate Egg, £37.50
For out-and-out luxury, Fortnum and Mason can always be relied upon. Featuring the very best white chocolate and charming decoration, including a very cute ladybird, this egg has my finer-things-in-life-appreciating sister’s name written all over it.
Marshmallow Sheep Lolly, £19.99
So sheep aren’t necessarily the most Easter-relevant of creatures, but lambs are full of the joys of spring, and these little lollies are delightful – just small enough to avoid over-indulgence guilt. A little bit of what you fancy does you good, after all. A great treat for your best friend.
Egg & Chips, £12
Chuckles and chocolate is possibly the very best of combinations. This humorous angle on the egg is comprised of Hotel Chocolat quality chocolate and salted caramel; and there’s not a chick or flower in sight – my dad will love it.
Headphone Jack Egg, £6
Marks & Spencer’s Headphone Jack is a quirky take on the classic egg. Made of delicious M&S chocolate with simple detailing in white and dark chocolate, it’s the least girlie-looking egg we’ve seen. For cool teenage nephews and brothers.
The Classic Ostrich Easter Egg, £70
This Hotel Chocolat ostrich-egg-sized chocolate blockbuster has had the whole office gawping in gluttonous awe. There’s even a rocky road version (see top). The solid chocolate shell is a melded wonder of cookie pieces, puffed rice, white chocolate and more chocolate. The 21 chocolates inside and six praline-filled golden eggs are the icing on a cocoa dream of a cake. This one is only for real chocolate connoisseurs – I’m keeping it.
