Torquay
The Elephant Restaurant and Brasserie
Housed in two Georgian terraced houses and covering two floors, the Michelin-starred Elephant offers two restaurants as well as a stylish and relaxing cocktail lounge. The decor throughout is sumptuous and inviting, whilst every effort has been made in the conversion to preserve the original features of the listed buildings. On the ground floor you’ll find the 50-seat Brasserie, serving simply prepared, locally sourced food in a relaxed environment. The menu comprises old favourites as well as some new and exciting dishes.
Upstairs, the culinary action really heats up. The Elephant’s fine-dining restaurant – The Room in The Elephant – boasts 24 covers and opens in the evening only. There is a comfortable cocktail lounge attached for pre-dinner drinks. The atmosphere is refined and relaxed, with the star of the show being the stunning view – Torbay is spread before you with its magnificent lights and marina. The Room offers modern British cuisine and, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can dine from the six-course tasting menu. The wine list is well chosen, combining classic regional Old World wines with some excellent New World varieties.
Head chef Simon Hulstone’s training has included stints at restaurants worldwide. His cooking is of the highest quality and only the finest ingredients are sourced to give his dishes the best possible flavour and presentation. The Elephant is the perfect destination for a touch of deliciousness.
