Good beer, good food and a friendly atmosphere mean that The Manor Inn is a thriving village pub. With a large car park, and food served all day, it is perfect for the weary traveller on their way to Brixham or Dartmouth. Also close by is Greenway Estate, the family home and gardens of Agatha Christie, which overlook the River Dart.
Built over 100 years ago, the sepia photographs on the exposed brickwork walls give an insight into its history. Archways lead into different rooms with low ceilings, exposed beams and an open fire in the winter. In better weather, tables outside offer the perfect venue for a cold drink and a bite to eat.
Beer drinkers will be pleased with the choice of real ales and the good selection of well-known wines is reasonably priced with most sold by the glass.
Traditional home-cooked pub fare is served from a set menu, or you can choose from the seasonal specials and a classic Sunday roast with all the trimmings. From the menu, we chose oaksmoked salmon fishcakes served with horseradish tartare sauce (£3.25) and mushrooms topped with melting Welsh rarebit cheese (£2.95). To follow, we had lamb shank hotpot in rich thyme gravy with root vegetables (£10.95) and the rocket pesto and mushroom tagliatelle (£5.75). Dessert was baked cheesecake with forest berries (£2.95) and a delicious cheese board with blue stilton, Somerset camembert and mature cheddar (£3.65).
With a non-smoking restaurant area, a children's menu and a good supply of colouring books and toys, The Manor Inn is also great for families.
