For a taste of real Devonshire cuisine, you can't go wrong with great pub dishes, and the Inn is an unexpected gem in one of Torquay's landmark hotels, The Grosvenor. This newly refurbished restaurant is a million miles away from the usual themed tourist ventures - the dark wood and exposed bricks make you feel like you're in a real locals' haunt, and the menu reflects the chef's passion for the best regional ingredients. Sourcing local seasonal produce wherever possible means the menu reads like the South Devon roadmap - fresh River Teign mussels in Thatchers Gold cider cream (£4.25) and Bays Gold beerbattered cod with hand-cut chips (£7.50) are amongst the list of firm favourites. The butcher's choice sausages, hand-raised pork pie, Cheddar platter and baked Somerset Camembert are all accompanied by delectable homemade chutneys or vegetables, and are all served in good quantity, ticking the box for excellent value for money.

Smaller tummies are offered dishes from the main menu in smaller portions, so you can dine happy knowing that the little ones are getting the same great quality food you are. We finished our evening with an indulgent sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce, followed by an interesting selection of West Country cheeses (both £3.75). With real ales, a varied wine list, friendly service and delicious food, the Inn @ The Grosvenor is deservedly popular - I will certainly be back.
