Main courses are nicely varied, with traditional pasta dishes and pizzas sitting alongside some great meat and fish options. The red-pesto-based pizza, loaded with roasted red and yellow peppers, olives, cherry tomatoes, red onion, mascarpone and buffalo mozzarella, is a new favourite, while a divinely tender sirloin steak will satisfy even the most hard-to-please diner. To finish, order the Godfather dessert – a mountainous creation of chocolate fudge brownie, vanilla and chocolate ice cream, with cream and a generous helping of chocolatey toppings.

When the bill arrives at Bella, you’ll be surprised at how little a full three-course meal comes to. To enjoy extra value for money, order from the set-price menu (available Sunday to Friday, noon until 7pm), which offers one course for just £5.95 or two courses for £8.95. The bambinos are also well looked after, with a healthy and tasty meal, dessert and drink costing just £5.25.
