They say good things come in small packages and this is certainly true of Il Camino. Cosy and intimate, this authentic Italian restaurant can seat up to 50 diners and, with just one foot in the door, you’ll realise you have arrived somewhere quite special. Burnished copper pans and pictures of old-time Sicily adorn the walls and the resulting effect is one of sepia-drenched comfort and homely familiarity.

This family-run business has built up an excellent reputation over the 30 years it has been going, with current owner Carlo Castronovo steadily steering the business in partnership with his father Saverio.

The crisp snow-white linen tablecloths and gleaming silver cutlery are the hallmarks of an establishment that really cares about its image. This is mirrored in the attention to detail and service provided by the waiting staff, which is in many ways reminiscent of a bygone era when customer satisfaction was considered of supreme importance. Our waiter didn’t just hand us a menu and walk away, instead he spent time patiently and expertly describing the various dishes on offer and the preparation involved in making them. We saw first hand the freshness of the produce involved when it was brought to our table for selection before being cooked.

The starters range from melt-in-the-mouth asparagus wrapped in Parma ham to the freshest and plumpest prawns this side of the Atlantic. The menu isn’t overpowering or overpriced and yet there is a fine selection of fish, pasta and meat dishes to suit even the most jaded palate. The produce is delivered fresh every day and the ingredients are the best on the market.

The restaurant has won an unsurprising faithful clientele over the years, with many of its regular diners visiting so frequently that they have become more like family friends.

Due to popular demand the restaurant is now open on Sundays, serving an excellent lunch menu and hosting regular live entertainment evenings. Carlo and the team have provided something for everyone at Il Camino and they are ready to host your special event, as this is the perfect venue for private parties and functions.

If you appreciate charming and attentive service combined with superior food, then Il Camino’s intimate setting is the place to find it.
