Situated on the historic Church Lane in Prestwich, this has got to be one of Manchester’s best restaurants. If you love food, and care about where it comes from, you have to make Fetish For Food your next stop. From the moment we entered this restaurant, we knew we were in for a special night. The beautifully decorated cottage has a warm atmosphere, great local art on the walls, fantastic music and a confidence-inspiring view through to the kitchen – we were impressed even before we embarked on our fantastic meal.

The buzzword for this restaurant is ‘provenance’, with all food being seasonal, free range and originating from sustainable sources. We sampled delicious mixed olives with piquant herbs as we settled in, and the care that goes into every detail was evident right from the beginning. Our starters of cod and pancetta fishcakes melted in the mouth, and the homemade chicken liver paté with relish was unbelievably good. We vowed to make a return visit there and then. Our main courses certainly didn’t change our minds – the blackened spiced breast of chicken with sweet potato coleslaw and my companion’s roast duck breast with pink peppercorn and passionfruit sauce were imaginative and unforgettable.

Add to this some incredible desserts, great options for vegetarians, generous portions, a midweek special set menu from £12.99 and easy access from central Manchester – is there any reason not to go? Bistro
