This large and architecturally pleasing house was originally built in the 19th Century and was recently modernised to create a stylish and comfortable hotel. The views from The Powfoot windows extend for miles over the Solway Firth, and in the foreground is The Powfoot Championship Golf Course for those who love a bit of sport.

Informal dining is available in the conservatory - where floor-to-ceiling windows look out towards the sea - and in the Bunker Bar, where a different cask-conditioned real ale is available every week in the summer, and a choice selection of fine European wines and beers, just right to sip in front of a hearty log fire, is offered all year round. Over 20 malt whiskies in stock ensure that the cold never gets too close, even in the heart of winter.

Head chef Andrew Kelso works with his team to provide an ever-changing selection of fresh and seasonal produce for a mix of modern and traditional dishes. Local suppliers are used to source the meat, game, fish and shellfish required for their appetising menu. This always contains a combination of regular favourites and some more unusual dishes, so there is something to keep everyone happy. With a continually evolving menu and wine list, Powfoot is proud to say that no two wining and dining experiences will be the same at their excellent Links Restaurant.

The Powfoot is ideally situated for access to the beautiful landscape of the Dumfries and Galloway area, from stunning coastal views to untouched Uplands. Many of the picturesque towns and villages are of historical interest. Nearby gardens open to the public include Threave Gardens, Drumlanrig Castle and Logan Botanical Gardens. The Wetlands and Wildfowl Trust is situated at Caerlaverock Castle, protecting wildlife and preserving natural beauty; so with all of these sites within easy reach, The Powfoot Golf Hotel is a luxurious and enjoyable base for enjoying the delights of the local area.
