Located in a busy part of Pontypridd, near the famous Pink Shop and the University of Glamorgan, Flagstones Tapas Bar opened its doors a little over two years ago, and is now a popular destination for students and locals alike. This lovely little find attracts a mixed clientele, with its upbeat music and television showing major sporting fixtures contrasting with an open fire and cosy tables. Outside, the garden area is covered all year round and boasts an outdoor fire, making alfresco dining and drinking a possibility whatever the weather. Inside, the bar boasts a fine range of Continental beers. The wine list is also varied, with different guest wines featuring every week alongside old favourites.

To accompany your tipple, make for the tapas menu of freshly prepared morsels, which takes influence from around the globe and features plenty of vegetarian options and regular seasonal specials. Tuck into crayfish on a bed of baked mushrooms and goat's cheese, along with a serving of duck with sweet and sour peppers. The chorizo beef meatballs in spicy tomato sauce were a big hit with us, while the crabmeat, Parmesan and spinach bruschetta was delicate and delicious in equal measure. Nachos, cheesy garlic bread and olives are ideal nibbles for those on the move. Prices range from around £2.50 to £5.95 per dish and, alongside the tapas menu, you'll find baguettes and all-day breakfasts that are perfect for students and passers by in need of some tasty replenishment.
