Located in the heart of Uppingham town centre you will find Don Paddy’s, a delightful brasserie serving fresh food with an innovative twist. Owned by local businessman Robert Wills and managed by welcoming host James Torbell, Don Paddy’s is a wonderful fusion of restaurant and wine bar, with a unique and relaxing atmosphere.

This establishment prides itself on serving high-quality fresh food, and head chef Ian Russell creates a menu that utilises locally sourced produce. I was more than impressed with my starter of breaded goat’s cheese with red onion marmalade – the cheese’s warm, melting centre was perfectly offset by the sweet yet zesty sauce. My main meal of rack of lamb with minted mash, buttered vegetables and red wine jus was tender and moreish, providing melting mouthful after mouthful. Our meal was completed deliciously by excellent desserts, which were worth the visit alone. I opted for the blueberry and vodka cheesecake, which was light, and not overpowered by the vodka as I had expected, while my partner chose the heavenly chocolate brownie. There is also the option to enjoy a refreshing drink in the outdoor seating area, where you will be spoiled for choice by the extensive range of wines and Champagnes, continental lagers and award-winning real ales. If that doesn’t tempt you, then why not opt for a Fairtrade coffee and homemade cake, baked fresh every morning. Another of Don Paddy’s specialities is the Sunday carvery, priced from £9.50 for one course to £15 for three courses – advanced booking is recommended as it is proving a very popular way for locals to spend a leisurely Sunday.

Don Paddy’s also houses two function rooms, each seating up to 20 people, and the friendly and experienced staff will happily cater for any occasion. With the specials changed on a daily basis and live music on selected nights, I urge those living in the city to venture that little bit further – you won’t be disappointed by Don Paddy’s.
