The family-run Buccleuch, a relaxed and welcoming country hotel set in the pretty village of St Boswells, was recently named ‘Scottish Inn of the Year 2011’ at the Scottish Hotel Awards.

Diners have the choice of eating in the cosy Huntsman Bar – which is decorated with hunting memorabilia, lending it a traditional feel – or in the Blue Room restaurant for a more intimate dining experience. The latter is available for private hire, as is the larger Salmon Room.

The main menu offers many tempting options from steaks to local fish, reflecting the amazing range of tasty, seasonal and fresh produce available in the area. Menus change with the seasons and are complemented by a selection of regularly changing specials. An evening meal at The Buccleuch might begin with a starter such as Eyemouth smoked haddock and salmon fishcakes with an Asian-style salad and sweet chilli dip, perhaps followed by braised lamb shank with sweet potato wedges, carrot and ginger purée and a redcurrant jus. To accompany your meal, drinks range from the likes of Chablis Domaine Long Depaquit 2008 or a fine Rioja, to guest ales and an amazing selection of gins. The lunch menu presents a selection of hearty mains, grills, light salads, sandwiches and paninis, with something to suit every palate and occasion.

Food is served seven days a week at the fabulous Buccleuch, and its location makes it an ideal stop for motorists on the A68, walkers and cyclists exploring the many local byways and footpaths, or for cricketers playing at the ground (perhaps the most beautiful in Scotland) which lies next to the hotel.
