Dryburgh Abbey Hotel
Nestled in ten acres of private estate land, Dryburgh Abbey Hotel is a splendid baronial country house dating back to the 19th Century. The hotel offers four-star accommodation in the heart of the Scottish Borders. Enjoy fine dining in the two-rosette Tweed Restaurant, with its high ceilings, large bay windows, fine decor and stunning views of the River Tweed. As well as holding two AA rosettes, head chef Peter Snelgar was awarded a Medaille D’Or for ‘Dinner Excellence’ at the 2011 Scottish Hotel Awards. Snelgar uses the best locally sourced produce (some from the hotel’s own kitchen garden) to create such sublime dishes as pan-seared red mullet fillet with pickled vegetables, poached hens’ eggs, saffron mayonnaise and petit shoots, and duo of Borders lamb with parsley root purée, fine beans, confit beetroot and rosemary jus.
The Abbey Bistro provides a less formal alternative to the restaurant, whilst still providing the highest-quality food – on offer are traditional dishes such as fillet steak and fish and chips. One of the highlights of a visit to the Abbey Bistro is the fantastic afternoon tea, which is available all day. The hotel has an excellent pastry chef and his afternoon delights are not to be missed.
Private dining can be arranged, with several private rooms offering superb views of the River Tweed.
