Lockerbie
The Hightae Inn
Situated in the picturesque village of Hightae, just ten minutes from the A74 motorway at Lockerbie, this charming five-bedroom inn is a hidden gem and offers a warm welcome to all. Decorated with local artists’ work, this bistro-style eatery is chic yet cosy – its proprietors have created a relaxed ambience, which makes one feel immediately at home. A wood-burning stove also ensures you won’t feel the cold during the winter months. To accompany the collection of evening suppers, there’s a carefully designed wine list and a selection of draft and bottled beers.
The menu incorporates locally sourced produce of the finest quality and changes as availability dictates – the food is lovingly prepared with abundant use of fresh herbs, oils and vinegars. Produce includes fish and game from Barony Country Foods, meats from The Butchery in Lockerbie and delicious chutneys from By Heck, just outside Hightae.
Highlights from the evening supper menu board include a warm smoked duck salad in an orange dressing, homemade steak and Guinness pie, rosemary-and-garlic double-loin lamb chops and Portobello mushrooms stuffed with mozzarella, pesto and pine nuts. Puddings are all homemade, with the Dundee marmalade bread and butter pudding and vanilla pannacotta with a raspberry coulis proving firm favourites for diners. Finish off your meal with freshly ground Italian Bei & Nannini coffee or a whisky from a great wee selection at the bar. With a limited number of tables available, booking is essential, especially over the weekend.
