Livingston’s is a hidden gem well worth seeking out. When we emerged from the passageway from Linlithgow High Street, we felt like we had been transported to the countryside. We sat in the airy dining room overlooking the garden, where rabbits were gambolling in the grass. With two AA rosettes to its name, Livingston’s impresses with more than its surroundings. The celeriac soup was delicious, as was the fresh smoked salmon, cured in-house and dressed with capers and shallots. My fillet of sea bream main, accompanied by herb risotto with seared calamari, was a marvel, while my companion’s slow-cooked pork belly, with a wholegrain mustard glaze and sweet apple purée, was succulent. The custard tart with mulled pears was gorgeous, and my moist hot chocolate fondant was a triumph – we will definitely be back to sample more.
