At Red Hot World Buffet & Bar, prepare yourself for a culinary journey around the world. Check in with a table number and move through short rows of aeroplane cabin-like seating, as though departing for some exotic destination. A waiter will then guide you politely to your table, take your drink order and point you to the giant pink archway, through which food of all nations awaits.

Starting in the culturally rich subcontinent of India, I tucked into sizzling shami kebabs, samosas, bhajis and naan bread. My partner, however, plumped for Chinese spring rolls and a selection of different salads from a very colourful display. The indulgent artichoke salad proved especially tasty. Next, we made a diversion to Japan, sampling beautifully prepared sushi which we teamed with green salad, shrimps and New Zealand mussels. Continuing our journey, my partner ambled over to Thailand for a green curry while I sidled up to the noodle bar, where a teppanyaki chef stood cooking the customers’ chosen ingredients on a sizzling griddle. I opted for squid, prawns, mushrooms and mangetout, to which he added a devilish combination of garlic and chilli. Two central displays dispense desserts: there are colourful plates of fruit, racks of tiny mousses, meringues and creme brulée – and a whole gelateria brimming with frozen delights of all flavours. There’s even good old apple crumble if you still have room.

One common argument is that the quality of the food suffers at all-you-can-eat restaurants – at Red Hot World Buffet, however, this most certainly is not the case. Here, the fantastic quality is maintained thanks to upwards of 30 chefs all working to ensure those eating late get the same perfectly prepared, attractively presented dishes as those who come in just after opening.

Likewise, the service here is impeccable. The staff – smartly dressed in black, white and red – could just as well be serving you on the first-class deck of an opulent cruise liner. I can guarantee your journey at Red Hot World Buffet will be an unforgettable one – you’ll be planning another expedition as soon as you walk out the door.
