Nestled in the spectacular grounds of The Roxburghe Hotel & Golf Course, The Library offers a stylish yet informal setting for lunch, where guests can dine amongst beautiful old books from the Duke of Roxburghe’s personal collection.

Spacious yet intimate, The Library offers locally sourced food at reasonable prices. Diners can choose from the Sportsman’s Menu, which features sandwiches as well as heartier meals, or from the selection of daily changing lunchtime specials. I started with a light and flavoursome sweet-potato soup, followed by a delicious fillet of halibut, accompanied by asparagus and black-olive-and-garlic-crushed new potatoes. A delicate apple tarte tatin with cinnamon ice cream provided an elegant, scrumptious finish. A selection of wines are available by the glass to accompany your meal; alternatively, choose a bottle from the Duke’s personal cellar, where fine and rare clarets are prominent.

Traditional afternoon teas provide another way to enjoy The Library’s wonderful ambience, perhaps followed by a leisurely walk through the lovely woodland nearby. If you fancy something a little more exerting, why not make use of the hotel’s fantastic facilities for golf, fishing or clay pigeon shooting? In any case, lunch at The Library shouldn’t be missed – a first-class dining experience.
