Jedburgh
Simply Scottish
Quality local produce is at the heart of the Simply Scottish ethos - Edinburgh tea and coffee, awardwinning Jedburgh haggis, fresh fish delivered from Eyemouth, award-winning ice cream from Biggar and, in the summer, a bounty of fresh Border berries.
This modern coffee shop and restaurant is warm and relaxing, and is a great location for meeting up with friends and family (baby-changing facilities and highchairs are available). Proprietors Stephen and Karen present dishes to suit a wide range of tastes, including several vegetarian options; and, because everything is made fresh in house, special dietary requirements can easily be accommodated.
The breakfast menu offers hearty home-cooked Scottish classics and lighter choices too, such as smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, and traditional Scottish porridge. The home baking is not to be missed; a freshly baked scone or cake or a slice of homemade shortbread or tray bake is an excellent accompaniment to a freshly ground coffee, frothed latte or cappuccino. The daytime menu offers a wide variety of snacks and lighter bites, such as homemade soups, paninis, baguettes and baked potatoes, delicious homemade burgers, salmon and haddock pie, vegetarian sausage and mash, and the much-loved slow-cooked steak pie. Casual dining is available in the evenings, with good, honest dishes and a specials board reflecting the best of the season. Smaller portions are always available for children and prices are very reasonable. The homemade desserts are always a talking point, from meringues and decadent cheesecakes to traditional Scottish raspberry cranachan and creamy creme brűlée.
Fully licensed and offering a range of wines and beers (including some locally produced) and several shelves of malt whiskies, this excellent eatery offers great Scottish hospitality and delicious, traditional Scottish cuisine.
