The Fountain Inn, a stone’s throw from the Cathedral, occupies the site of Gloucester’s oldest inn and was the last pub in the city to brew beer on the premises.

It remains a traditional pub without the impedimenta of jukeboxes, TVs and the like. During the summer months the award-winning flower-filled garden is an oasis of tranquillity in a bustling city, and is the ideal venue for alfresco dining.

The menu sports everything from a lunchtime sandwich to an impressive specials board featuring dishes to tempt you away from the steaks, grills, pies, pasta and fish on the main menu. Food is freshly prepared, as you would expect, and is sourced mostly from local suppliers. You may eat in the main bar if you like a good pub atmosphere, the Orange Room for a more intimate environment or, of course, outside in summer.

The pub is hidden away down an alley off Westgate Street, which makes it a little difficult to find perhaps, but well worth the effort. Vehicles can drop off in Berkley Street just around the corner.
