If homely and hidden doesn't suit you, why not try the Sisters Kelvingrove, right in the centre of busy Glasgow. The Sisters Kelvingrove feels a little like the Sisters Jordanhill's chic city cousin, with minimalist decor in black, white and charcoal. The bigger of the two restaurants, this site still manages to create the intimate atmosphere that people have come to expect of this sibling-run business. In such a busy city, the sisters know the importance of personal, friendly service, welcoming new diners like old friends and making a point of learning the names of regular customers.

The focus here is on Scottish home cooking, with ingredients to remind you of weekends at your grandma's house as a child, and puddings to warm your cockles on the coldest of days. If you're going to the theatre, what better way to begin your evening than to enjoy the pre-show menu? Delicious starters include Achiltibuie peat-smoked haddock and leek risotto, while main courses will tempt even the fussiest eater, with treats like eight-hour-braised heather-fed black-faced lamb with minty green vegetables and creamy mash. If you've saved enough room for pudding, try the clootie dumpling swimming in a pool of fresh homemade custard - it is a real must.
