Found in a prime location on Glasgow’s bustling Sauchie hall Street, Nanakusa serves a plethora of authentic Japanese delights within a minimalist, contemporary setting. An open kitchen reveals there is a chef assigned solely to tempura and sushi orders – our expertly crisp gyoza chicken dumplings and prawn tempura noodle soup with exceptionally light batter were testament to his expertise. Nanakusa also specialises in sashimi, nigiri and temaki sushi, with the pinnacle being a grand 28-piece moriawase, which brings together the highlights. Our makimono of spicy tuna and grilled eel suggests the sushi chef may be competing with the tempura cook for top billing. The restaurant’s air of quality is reinforced by efficient waiting staff, who even on the busiest evening manage to deal with questions concerning the menu with great aplomb. Our meal definitely confirmed Nanakusa’s reputation as one of Glasgow’s finest authentic Japanese restaurants.
