Journey down to Pollokshaws Road on the South Side of Glasgow, and you will discover Mulberry St, a delightfully intimate family-run bistro. The picture postcard exterior with additional alfresco seating will entice you to enter into this well-established venue. Once inside, you’ll find subtle, stylish decor, comfortable furnishings and friendly, attentive staff.

Although this bustling bistro shares its name with a street in downtown New York, the menu is a more international affair, offering cuisine from all four corners of the globe. Catering for mild and adventurous palates – and those in between – the chefs here use only the best fresh produce to create innovative fare. From the fantastic selection of starters, we enjoyed the light, velvet textures of Stornoway black pudding with poached egg on a bed of spinach, and the piquant crispy tempura king prawns with sweet chilli soy.

For mains, I decided to jet off to Morocco by savouring the aromatic lamb tagine with fragrant coconut rice, while my companion devoured the Mexican-style sizzling chicken fajitas. For dessert we ordered the traditional apple pie and scrumptious sticky toffee pudding – comfort food at its best. A selection of well-picked wines and top-notch beers complement the excellent menu. A trip to Mulberry St is a culinary pleasure that’s not to be missed.
