If you’re a fan of traditional Scottish cuisine, start off with haggis, bashed neeps and tatties, beautifully accompanied by Arran mustard gravy. For a more Continental experience, enjoy bruschetta with fresh tomato and basil, red onion and mozzarella. All of the grills on offer are well worth a try, but for total, unashamed carnivorous indulgence go for the mixed grill – surfed and turfed with added grilled prawn skewers – which allows you to try several different cuts of meat, each one succulent and flavourful. Alternatively sample pan-roasted chicken with haggis hotpot, served with Laphroaig sauce – richly seasoned and warming. Then for dessert, let the team take you back to your childhood with battered Mars Bar or sticky toffee pudding.

Food is served from 11am until 10pm everyday, and reservations can be made via the website, Facebook or by telephone. A two-course lunch costs a mere £6.95, and the market menu (available every evening) will set you back just £11.95 for two courses, or £14.95 for three. A wide variety of dishes can also be found on the main and burger menus, including some traditional home-style recipes – all of which are reasonably priced.
