La Lanterna is Glasgow's oldest family-run restaurant. Opened in 1970, it has been in business for almost 40 years and is firmly established as one of the city's premier destinations for authentic Italian cuisine. Current owners Chris Martinolli and Luca Conreno work tirelessly to maintain the restaurant's traditions and have elevated La Lanterna's reputation to where it is today.

Situated on Hope Street in the city centre, just across the road from the central station, La Lanterna is perfect if you're looking for a special night out in Glasgow, whether you live locally or out of town. The basement restaurant is modelled on an Italian courtyard and seeps rustic charm, with dark wooden beams and warm colours. It boasts an atmospheric setting that's just right for settling down to a range of traditional dishes from all over the Italian homeland.

Start with something like crema di crostacei and experience freshly made cream of scampi soup finished with brandy and cream, or opt for something light like carpaccio con rucola e Parmigiano which features finely sliced smoked beef fillet with Parmesan shavings, olive oil and lemon juice.

Moving on, and you'll find a huge range of pasta, risotto, meat, poultry and game options, such as venison medallions sautéed in olive oil, served in a sauce of balsamic vinegar, wine and fresh rosemary. Risotto options include a smoked ham creation, finished with mushrooms, peas, fresh Parmesan and cream. Freshly made pannacotta with a chocolate and orange sauce might tempt you, or finish with sweet crepes filled with fresh fruit and served with cream or ice cream.

The key to the success of La Lanterna's extensive menu is the quality of the cooking and the freshness of the produce. All in all, a relaxed and laid-back eatery in which you can fully appreciate your company and your meal like a true Italian.
