Even under new ownership, one of the city’s oldest eateries (113 years, no less) has retained its immutable charm. The Kings Café philosophy is to keep things simple and at their homemade best, so you’ll find nothing but good food from this time honoured city institution. For early risers, the café opens its doors at 7am, with a menu offering hearty Scottish breakfasts and filled rolls, whilst business lunchers can enjoy baguettes, pastas, salads and sandwiches throughout the afternoon. The menu is topped off with a great selection of main courses. My partner and I ordered the chunky and moreish chilli with tortilla chips, along with a fish supper, which was generously portioned and delicious. Interestingly, the café also offers shark, kangaroo and ostrich suppers from time to time. The food here, much like the café itself, is unique, but manages to remain utterly Glaswegian.
