Ichiban Noodle Café
Established in June 1998, the Ichiban Noodle Café offers an excellent array of delicious, simple Japanese dishes, from bento boxes, sushi and noodles to teriyaki, tempura and kushiyaki. Due to the rapidly growing popularity of the original restaurant, another was opened in 2002 at 184 Dumbarton Road - both have become known as the places to go for superb Japanese food. There are no specific starters or desserts - rather, diners can choose from main courses, sushi and side dishes. The menu is separated into sections, with a choice of soups, freshly made sushi, and wok-fried rice and curry-based dishes. All the meals have a base ingredient such as chicken, seafood, beef or pork, which is cooked differently according to your chosen dish. Popular choices of main course include the yasai curry with mixed vegetables - which provides a tasty vegetarian option - and the seafood soup which can be ordered with ramen, udon and soba noodles. As well as the main courses, there are also some great portable bento boxes available which contain a generous array of sushi, gyoza, onigiri, miso soup and pickles. The excellently priced set lunch and the convenient takeaway service are just two more of the many reasons to eat at this great restaurant. A true taste of Japan in the middle of Glasgow, the Ichiban Noodle Café serves authentic, delicious dishes at excellent prices. Well worth a visit for lovers of Japanese food - not to mention those still waiting to try it.
