Firebird
Firebird's relaxed vibe has been attracting diners for well over a decade. Pop in for coffee and cake, a stone-baked pizza or a glass of wine and watch the world go by through the floor-to-ceiling windows, which run the length of two walls. With views over the iconic Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Firebird is a stone's throw from Kelvinhall Underground, Kelvingrove Park and Byres Road.
This airy, rustic venue contains a few quirky touches, including old gas streetlamps and a large fish tank containing fish donated by the locals. During the colder months an open fire invites you to cosy up for a hearty dinner - and in finer weather, you can dine and drink alfresco until 10pm. Mediterranean influences can be felt in the wide selection of pastas and salads, and also in a handful of tasty small and large plates including bunyols de bacalla and the eight-ounce lamb rump on pearl barley in a thyme and red wine jus. The ever-popular stone-baked pizzas come with a perfectly thin and crispy base, and are made with organic ingredients and topped with mouth-watering delicacies. Enjoy the rich flavours of the mozzarella and crispy pancetta pizza, or try the flavoursome wild mushroom, goat's cheese and pine nut pizza. To accompany a wide selection of wines, drafts and spirits, the bar menu offers tasty nibbles such as house-marinated olives and roasted chermoula-spiced nuts.
