Since opening three years ago, 279 Cafe Bistro has gone from strength to strength. This charming and intimate family-run restaurant is opportunely placed in an area with a growing status for quality dining – a reputation it has unquestionably helped establish. We were faced with an exciting menu featuring an array of dishes – such as chicken and Stornoway black pudding with Port and redcurrant jus – and equally distracted by the specials board. Finally, we wisely selected succulent pan-fried king prawns marinated in garlic, ginger and piquant chillies, and wild mushroom risotto with asparagus and rocket. We demolished our desserts with such gusto that the creme brulée with homemade shortbread was almost ordered a second time. With a kitchen focusing on providing good, honest food for families and friends, this is a place that deserves a visit and moreover, a chance to become home from home.
