Herges on the Loch
With a superb situation at the top of Tweedbank’s Gunknowe Loch, Herges on the Loch is a stylish, modern gastropub that simply must be visited. Close to Abbotsford, home of Sir Walter Scott, this place offers a warm welcome and superb food. Owners Sandy and Karen will cater to your every need and, although the restaurant only opened at the end of 2009, it is fast becoming a firm favourite among locals.
When you eventually get down to the business of ordering, you will find yourself spoilt for choice by everything from old favourites such as Traquair ale pie and homemade burgers, to slow-cooked Ayrshire pork belly, succulent steaks and Cajun-spiced chicken breast. Every dish is cooked to order and the hand-cut chips are legendary. You should always leave room for a dessert, as the warmed pecan tart with vanilla pod ice cream and the soft-baked strawberry Pavlova are real must-haves. Herges on the Loch is open all day for coffees and teas and also offers a fantastic light bite menu at lunchtime, with filled paninis, bagels and ciabattas, as well as tandoori chicken skewers served with salad.
The food, the friendly atmosphere, the first-class service and superb facilities make this beautiful loch-side restaurant well worth a visit.
