0.5 miles
Exmouth Road, Lympstone, Nr. Exmouth, EX8 5AJ
Originally part of the Nutwell Estate, the Grade II listed Nutwell Lodge was once used as a place to entertain shooting parties and guests of the lord of the manor, who, at one time, was Sir Francis Drake. Nowadays all are welcome at this cosy, intimate venue, which is decked out with an appealing mix of comfortable, traditional furnishings and contemporary touches. The function room has been recently refurbished, making The Nutwell Lodge a top place to host everything from birthday parties to business meetings.

The star of the show at The Nutwell Lodge is the fantastic carvery, which is served every day and is one of the best in the area. Priced at just £5.95 from Monday to Saturday and £8.95 on Sundays, it is great value, especially if you have the family in tow. A daily changing selection of the best British meats, sourced from Red Tractor-assured farms, are served with freshly prepared vegetables, Yorkshire puddings, chipolata sausages, stuffing and gravy. Accompany yours with one of the Cask Marque-accredited real ales.

A full menu of traditional dishes is available too, with everything from light bites to comforting classics. You might begin with nachos to share or breaded mushrooms, before moving onto a wholesome main - the Wexford chicken or 8oz 21-day-aged Wexford steak, both topped with mushrooms, creamy peppercorn sauce and melted Leicestershire Stilton, are popular choices. You're welcome to simply pop in for a coffee too, made by trained baristas using Segafredo coffee beans. In fact, you can even sip your cup of Joe or enjoy a leisurely meal alfresco on the large patio if the weather is fine.

Close to various holiday parks and Crealy Adventure Park, and with a convenient large car park, The Nutwell Lodge is an ideal place to stop-off for families visiting the area. There is also a Diamond Club for over-50s - members can collect points (one point for every pound spent) and enjoy some great discounts and special deals, including two courses for £7.50 from Monday to Friday. Indeed, diners of all ages return here time and again because they know they'll receive the very best in service and food every visit
