The Crate & Apple
Bar-Restaurant

A stone’s throw from the busy High Street of Chichester, The Crate & Apple continues to thrive as one of the finest bar and restaurants in West Sussex. Head chef Jordan Thompson simply excels in delivering food of the highest calibre and presentation. To start my partner and I opted for the exquisite rabbit and pork terrine with apple purée and plum ketchup, and the tantalising goat’s cheese sorbet with beetroot Carpaccio, pickled onion, walnuts and homemade rosemary cracker.
Available for the main course are a selection of incredible dishes boasting unique and exciting flavour combinations. My partner’s main of roast hake loin wrapped in Parma ham, served with spring onion potato cake, sundried tomatoes, and caper and leek sauce was fresh and vibrant. The hay-smoked 10oz rump steak with triple-cooked chips, ale-pickled onion ring and sauce Bavaroise was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. The desserts are simply exceptional. My pudding of prune and stout sponge with chocolate and homemade smoked bacon ice cream was out of this world.
There’s also a considered and accessible wine list and an excellent gin menu to choose from to accompany your lunch or dinner. The bar has a relaxing and warming atmosphere to enjoy a drink should you wish to pop in for a tipple. With stunning surroundings, a stellar menu and a gorgeous rear garden to explore, it’s not a question of why, but when you visit The Crate & Apple.
