Tusitala
Tusitala, with its relaxing and ambient warmth, is the ideal sanctuary in which to enjoy some modern European dining. The contemporary space sparkles with rainbow glass and coloured lights, and its panoramic pavilion windows overlook a tranquil fountain. The menu comprises a careful selection of classic dishes, presented in a contemporary fashion. Seafood, steaks, pizzas, pastas and daily specials all feature. The restaurant is open all day, every day, from morning coffee from 10am through to lunch and dinner.
In the face of such a dynamic selection, choosing a dish did not come easy. I finally settled on the appetiser of mussels in a white wine, cream, garlic and herb broth with homemade bread, which was counterbalanced by a zesty sauvignon blanc from Chile. The scallops that followed were juicy and seared to perfection, and presented with panache on a vibrant bed of puréed peas and black pudding. The oaky, mellow South African chenin blanc, recommended by the knowledgeable manager, Ladis, was an ideal accompaniment. This was succeeded by a trip to chocoholic heaven with an exquisite dark chocolate, ginger and orange torte.
The attention to detail, exquisite service and clear passion for exemplary food and wine guarantee Tusitala will charm novice foodies and delight even the staunchest of connoisseurs.
