Just a short stroll from the city centre, The Standard is the ideal option for dinner after a hard week at work. Relaxing on the red leather banquettes, with a glass of wine in one hand and a menu in the other, was just what the doctor ordered. We started with the goat’s cheese and caramelised onion tartlet – a perfect mix of sweet and salty flavours – and the spicy beef skewer served with cool, minty tzatziki, which was wonderfully juicy. For our main course, the beef olive was outstanding. Stuffed with crumbly pork sausage meat, it was beautifully cooked and tender. Thankfully, we just about had room for some of the light and tasty chocolate profiteroles, stuffed with Chantilly cream.

Whether you want a bite to eat with friends while watching a game, or a welldeserved meal after a long day in the office, The Standard really does set the standard for other pubs to aim for.
