If you have a craving for some quality, authentic Thai cuisine, look no further than Thai Pad. This elegant yet comfortable restaurant boasts a central location and is close to the Edinburgh Playhouse, making it the perfect place for a pre-theatre meal. The restaurant’s highly skilled chefs are all from Thailand, and each is a specialist in their native cuisine. Only top-quality produce is used, including local vegetables and Scottish beef, and herbs and spices are imported weekly from Thailand. To start, I chose the delicious goong fong beer (prawns wrapped in crisp beer batter) which arrived skilfully presented. My partner’s tod mun pla (fishcakes) also looked and tasted fantastic. I had the pad Thai main, which featured a flavoursome combination of crispy vegetables, tender noodles, a gently spiced sauce and plump prawns. To finish, we were tempted by a pineapple dessert originating from Phuket, but instead decided on a cup of delicate lemongrass tea – a refreshing end to a fantastic meal.
