Open: Mon-Sun 9am-late

OT The first thing you’ll notice about the Filling Station is the unique atmosphere – as your friendly server leads you to your table, you’ll see fellow guests tapping their feet to a soulful and funky soundtrack while they tuck into their well-stacked dishes. You’ll also see walls adorned with retro motoring memorabilia, with everything from classic posters to hub caps and grilles salvaged from American automobiles. The overall impression is that of a charming restaurant and meeting place.

One word is needed to sum up the menu – choice. Diners can choose from a selection of burgers, fajitas, grills, pastas, pizzas, salads, sandwiches and more besides. Inspiration has been drawn from the United States (coast to coast), with dishes including Cajun chicken pasta bake, Philly steak wrap and Californian pizza. Special mentions are due for the fajitas, which always turn heads as they’re brought sizzling from the kitchen, and the burgers – there are 12 to choose from, including the chilli burger, and all are served with fries and coleslaw. The menu is not solely American – the haggis, neeps and tatties are also strongly recommended.

Breakfast is available all day, with everything from toast to a traditional Scottish breakfast. The lunch menu (available 11am until 5pm, Monday to Friday) offers great value for money. For just £6.55 you can choose one of 21 main courses, including cod and chips, goat’s cheese and red onion salad and a variety of pasta, pizzas, burgers and wraps. Diners also have the option to enjoy two courses for £7.95, or three courses for £8.95. For dessert, expect to find sweet delights such as pecan pie, banana cheesecake or rocky road sundae.

It might sound somewhat clichéd to say there’s something for everyone, but at Filling Station its true – a variety of vegetarian dishes is available and, in addition to the above menus, kids have their own menu too.

Finally, it would be criminal not to mention the bar offering at Filling Station. In addition to a selection of wines, beers and spirits, there’s the popular cocktail menu – with everything from Mojitos and Lynchburg Lemonade to the fruity Zoom! and Smartie on offer, you’ll enjoy choosing your cocktail as much as drinking it.
