Situated in the four-star Hotel Novotel in central Edinburgh, Elements Bar & Restaurant focuses on using high-quality, locally sourced produce to provide a diverse range of lunch and dinner options. The everyday menu offers a large selection of light bites and traditional favourites, while inspiring head chef Craig Whitelaw creates an intriguing fortnightly evening menu of contemporary Scottish cuisine.

The starter of blue cheese and walnut soufflé immediately caught my eye, although I struggled to choose my main course. Deciding between the Highland venison with a chilli fondue and the North Sea scallops on a celeriac and vanilla mash wasn’t easy – they sounded equally delectable. I opted for the venison (to match our wine, a crisp New Zealand pinot noir) while my dining companion selected the gorgeous spinach and dolcelatte risotto. The Scottish cheese plate then provided the perfect ending, leaving us both entirely satisfied. Served with a complimentary assortment of fresh bread, our meals were delicious and immaculately presented. The service was excellent, and the restaurant exuded a relaxed, stylish ambience – we were so cosy at our table, we were reluctant to leave.

A great dining experience depends on a combination of good food, top-notch service and an unforgettable atmosphere – and at Elements Bar & Restaurant they’ve got the blend just right.
